Ok. A friend of mine posted a link to this on Facebook and I think it’s amazing…. a good read for all who are (or are becoming) parents in our world today:
Why You’re Never Failing as a Mother
Sorry for my lack of posts so far this year! This last week has been VERY exciting in the potty training department:
My baby has worn underwear (UNDERWEAR!!) all this week at daycare.
We started out with undies last weekend for a few hours each day and then just kind of jumped in full force on Monday at school. She is moving up to the next class at the end of February and needs to be potty-trained by then, and I’d been kind of nervous about how little interest C had been showing in the whole deal. I talked with one of her daycare teachers last week and she suggested this route. I think this push — no potty pun intended — was just what she needed.
She’s had a few accidents but for the most part has been doing really, really well…
And last night she peed on the potty at home for the first time….on the big potty, using a small step stool and one of these.
She is so proud of herself… as we are with her!

Congrats! Can’t believe how big she’s getting already… And what a good way to help her transition! Sounds like you’re a busy mama. :)
Thank you. LOL. The thought of having to potty train a child was the one thing I was really kind of stressed about once we had her… like… how the hell do you teach a person to do this?? um, you talk about #1 and #2 a LOT!! And get help from daycare… thank GAWD. Thanks for reading and following me Audrey!
Funny as it sounds, I felt the same way about housebreaking our little puppy… It’s hilarious to me how excited we get about him “telling” us he needs to go outside.
And therefore congratulations go to you as well!! That also takes time and effort… and love and treats =)
congrats!! it’s awesome when day care helps too! Make sure to send in extra socks! We used marshmallow at first for any success, then eventually for only poop success.
Ash is just now getting interested, and has sat on her potty chair every night this week, and some mornings, with no success, but she’s initiating it.
Such a big step! Yay!
Thank you. I was thinking of your posting T’s journey through using the potty … and I knew I had to write an update on what was happening… there’s just never time! (and yeah, LOL, socks…. I had to bring in extra this week…). So cool that Ash is getting interested early… at least interested in sitting on the potty! I bought a “now we’re going to learn to use the potty” type video… and on there it suggested getting kids at least introduced to the actual small potty early… which I kind of wish I’d done…which I will definitely do for #2 if we have a #2! (kid, not poop)
LOL! biggest thing is not to get upset about it. Have her help clean up, too.
Once T started training, we only used undies during the day, never switched back and forth between the two. Pull ups only at night.
BTW, we’re now pull-up free with T! We need to wake her when we go to bed, but she’s waking up dry just about every morning now! Almost a year after she was basically day trained.
right… I never thought about asking her to help clean up, that sounds like a good idea! I don’t want to switch back to pull ups or diapers during the day either… my other concern right now is that she hasn’t pooped in 2 days and I don’t want her to get constipated (and then not want to poop at all b/c it will hurt). That’s great about T. So you wake her up to go to the bathroom before you go to bed, then put her back to bed? It makes sense that it would take some time to make the full transition…
They’re so eager to help clean up anyway, why not? I’m not sure if Tea didn’t poop for a few days at first or not? We had a bunch of accidents, but the lure of marshmallows really helped. We may have stacked the deck a few times with prunes…
As far as Tea and her night training, yes, we’ve been getting her up – she’s usually half asleep even on the toilet – to go potty. She goes right back down, so it’s never really an issue. She is such a deep sleeper that beinn wet doesn’t wake her up.
BTW, I’ve nominated you for the Inspiring Blogger Award: http://lisasff.wordpress.com/2013/01/12/january-12-2013-really/
I love how she decorated her potty! I am so not looking forward to potty training but luckily we have a while.
Yeay Chloe!!! My kids were all potty trained 3-6 months before their third bday. Literally in one weekend. I had them walk around naked all weekend and it worked! There were accidents only with underwear on I think bc they are so used to peeing in a diaper so underwear sorta felt the same. But once they were completely naked it clicked.
I love that thought, “why you’re never failing as a mother”–so true, and we should focus on that fact a lot more.
I hope you and your new baby are doing really well.
